When writing The AA Badges of New Zealand I was asked by many collectors to include a valuation guide with the book. I decided against this idea as valuations fluctuate dramatically which would render the book obsolete. The valuation guide below has been produced to supplement The AA Badges of New Zealand.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a GUIDE only, valuations will and do vary. Many collectors will disagree with some or all of the valuations, the prices listed are compiled by observing sales on internet sites, at swap meets and other points of sale, many are estimated on the scarcity of the badge and the price expected should one come up for sale.

The valuation of a badge is only what an individual is prepared to pay. There are collectors that have a higher disposable income than others and are prepared to pay a premium, particularly for the scarcer issues. Two keen collectors bidding on one badge will force the badge up well above its realistic value.

The value of a badge generally decrease once the major collectors have obtained one each for their collection it being a simple rule of supply and demand. Even on internet sites the prices vary from day to day I have seen badges sell for $500 and the next week an identical badge fetch only $100 ……………..so remember it is only an estimate /guide.

Definitions:
Guide: Something that serves to direct or indicate. something that offers basic information
Estimate: To calculate approximately (the amount, extent, magnitude, position, or value of something).

Values are given in New Zealand dollars and are for badges in average condition. Badges in poor or damaged condition will be worth far less whilst badges in mint condition will usually only bring about 10% more. Unlike many collecting hobbies badge value is not affected greatly by condition unless damaged.

Guide is for use with the book AA Badges of New Zealand it is not given as a stand alone valuation of New Zealand badges, the images and text in the book clearly assist in identifying individual badges.
